Complimentary Strategy Session

When business owners come to me for help, and the first thing I ask them is, what is the vision for your business? What is it that you’re trying to create? Most people just don’t know what it is that they want to create in their business, and they kind of say, “oh! I don’t know”.

I say, ‘well, this is something that you need to think about’. You know, the business vision is a foundation for whatever you’re going to do in your business. It guides your strategy. It guides your tactical decisions. It’s the starting point of any great business.

So, the funny thing is most people know what they don’t want. They just really struggle to decide exactly what it is that they do want. So I say to the business owners, ‘go away. Find yourself a nice, quiet spot, somewhere where you’re inspired. Take a piece of paper, and answer the following questions’:

When my business is done, what will my business look like?

Where will we be located?

Who will we serve? How will we serve them?

What products and services will we sell? How many team members will we have?

What will people say about our business? What will we be known for?

These are all fundamental, important things. How can you decide what to do in your business if you don’t know the answers to these questions? And people say ‘well, I don’t know’.

I say to them ‘make it up, just pretend’. There’s this great quote by Albert Einstein, he says, “Logic will take you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”

Here’s the thing. You’re way more powerful than you know. You can achieve, I believe, anything that you put your mind to, but you need to know what you’re putting your mind to. You need to know what your focus is going to be every day.

And part of it is knowing what will your business look like when it’s done?

So, take the time today, if you haven’t already, and if you have done it already, take a look. Does it still fit for you? Is your vision still the same? It’s okay for visions to change as we learn and evolve, but it’s really important that you do have one.
